Letter to a friend

As for my painting, I believe that like everything else in life, it has to do with timing. One simply must wait for the right time, but wait with active faith and a persistent sense of purpose. I think I have been doing that. One also needs to have love in their life; to love deeply and to be loved deep into the soul. That is where art comes from.

In order to bake a cake, you need all the ingredients, including a hot stove and a sufficient window of time.

So, I am making paintings now in a language that is a compilation of all that I have experimented with before. What I am enjoying most about this recent work is that I am continuing to test the limits of the language and finding that it is capable of supporting a variety of genres and themes equally well. I think it is because the thread that holds this series together is based on strong design fundamentals -- compelling color harmonies, clear space division and a careful balancing of style, form, and subject matter. Voila! There it is. Enjoy! -Dan
